Initial inspection completed

Yesterday we met with builder Steve to do an initial walk through of the house to identify what items were left for
completion. It was lovely to go through the house with it being almost completed, it is really starting to feel like our home. The news is that we could have the keys in two to three weeks, and we are busy lining up tilers ready to come in once we have the keys. Enjoy the new photos!

Garden Beds

Thanks to the hard work of some very generous friends we now have three garden beds! Two have been planted with vegetables, including garlic, spinach, cauliflower and lettuce. One has been planted with 100 tulip bulbs ready for our own mini floriade.

The garlic is on us!

Final touch ups coming along!

Things appear to be slowing up a bit now that it is closer to finishing. However a few things where done today. Installment of the door handle (which is kind of ugly - but there wasn't any choice), sink tap, drains for outside and the gas bottle. We could see the pump and cover are waiting inside for installation (possibly tomorrow when the gas gets connected).

We should have our first of the walk throughs with the builder either late this week or next. Getting pretty close now. We are both getting more and more excited.

Progressing well!

Lots of things have happened since last post.
  • All tiling in bathrooms, kitchen and laundry are complete.
  • Paint is completed for the whole house.
  • Electrical and communication points are all installed (complete today).
  • Oven is sitting in place.
There is still plenty more to though. This week should see the installation of the aircon system with dirt to be back filled around the house soon to follow. Inspections can go from there on.

Last time we spoke with Steve we could be in the house in 3 to 4 weeks, possibly sooner, but we are not holding our breaths.

Enjoy the photos in the mean time!

Tiling

The tilers have been working for the last two days, and we now have the bathroom floors and laundry floor tiled, as well as the splashback in the kitchen. The grouting should continue tomorrow. The main bathroom wall tiles are in place and waiting to be grouted also. We are very happy with the floor tiles but not sure about the splash back as it looks a little dull. hopefully the paint will improve this. No photos yet, but we will try and get some on the weekend.

Kitchen installed!

Now we have a place to store all the tea and coffee we keep promising! And a front door to come through.

These are the main pantry cupboards.

The main kitchen area. The pantry cupboards are just out of shot on the left.

Kitchen bench.
Who likes the green door? Should we keep it like this?

Fixtures

The carpentry continues this week. All the doors (except the rumpus room) have now been fitted including it architraves. The first picture it a closer look at the main bedroom door, the 2nd is the guest room. You can see the doors (including the cupboards) have all been fitted.

Allegedly the kitchen should be in this week so I thought it worthy of a before shot.

Finally a photo of the completed tank. We actually had 2 loads of water delivered today. This is required before they back fill the dirt around it. I guess 28 tonnes of water should keep it in place!

Waterproof

The waterproofing has been completed in the bathrooms and the cornices are up around the house. Tomorrow the carpenters will begin work on the door frames and windows. The water tank lid has been completed, and the form work has been removed from inside the tank. More updates soon!

Internal walls

The internal walls are up and the joins have been plastered over. We also have the framework for the lid of the concrete tank up, so it should be done this week.We had plenty of rain over the weekend so there is a small amount of water in the tank - we also have a great water view from the front windows of the house.

Insulation and Plastering

By Friday afternoon most of the outside wall insulation had been installed with a reasonable amount of plastering too. All the ceiling is now plastered. Rooms are really taking some shape now.

Half way there

The bottom and side of the main water tank have now been installed. There is a few inches of water in it now due to the rain over the weekend. The tank won't actually be connected to the house until completion. If only it was ready a few days earlier we might of had a full tank from this rain!

Septic installed today! Its actually quite large as you can kind of see in the 2nd photo.

It's a big hole!

Water tank: You dig it, you put a tank in, then you fill it with water. We think the clouds got mixed up. They have tried to fill up the hole before the tank goes in! Oh well can blame it for trying!

Big toys and lining

Today we had a couple of deliveries to the house - more plaster board, cornices and a tonka truck! This means the plumbing passed its first inspection, and we should have a dirty big hole for our water tank in the next few days.

We have been advised that it usually takes a week to get the underground cement water tank done, so keep checking back to see the progress!

Electrical and Plumbing!

Alright, so its been over two weeks......

The electrical cables, water and gas plumbing have now been installed. Even the air-con is there. According to Steve a plumbing inspection is due this week after which (assuming it passes) the walls and ceiling insulation shall be installed followed by the plasterboard.

Today the batons for the ceilings where nailed in (sorry no photos of those yet). The cornices where also delivered. Soon will look like a house on the inside as well as the outside!

Finally - some new photos.

The roof and bricking is now complete. They also cleaned up most of the mess left around which is nice (still missing quite an amount mind you). Still not at lock up stage, but hopefully not far away.

The sliding doors rails were installed just before Christmas.

A spectacular view of the interior!

A view looking at the south-east side of the house.

And the north-east view.
